I am committed to helping people look at issues around death and dying--look at their fears and learn about their options. I am a hospice volunteer (I sit vigil with the dying). I am also part of the Great Circle Collaborative in Madison, a group that has come together to raise
awareness about aspects of death and dying and how they inform our lives.
We sponsor activities like monthly Community Conversations about Death and Dying, workshops on home funerals, and a film series.

Why Community Conversations on Death and Dying? What are they like? Most of us find it difficult to talk about  this topic. We know it’s important, but in our culture the subject of death is generally considered off limits until it’s staring us in the face. As a result, we have few opportunities to discuss something that we’ll all experience.

These conversations
provide a unique opportunity to explore beliefs, questions, emotions and experiences in a safe and open environment. We believe that healthy attitudes toward dying help us live richer and more conscious lives. The Conversations are akin to the "Death Cafes" that are proliferating around the world, although our format involves a respectful, sharing, meditative circle. Every Conversation is different, depending on who is present and what is "up" at the time. Facilitators help keep the group focused and sometimes provide questions to open discussion.
